Cardiovascular disease
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a term used to describe diseases of the heart and circulation, including coronary heart disease, angina, heart attack and stroke.
CVD is the most common cause of death in the UK and in Wirral and a major cause of disability.
Since 1993, NHS Wirral has made considerable improvements in reducing death rates from CVD. However, there still remain significant differences in CVD death rates between people living in more deprived areas and those living in the rest of Wirral. Locally as well as nationally, men continue to have higher death rates from CVD than women.
