Miriam Primary Care Group celebrates multiple awards
A trio of Wirral medical practices has scooped three regional Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) awards.
Miriam Primary Care Group won Practice Team of the Year; Nurse Practitioner and Practice Partner, Philomena Potts won Practice Nurse of the Year; and Dr Abhi Mantgani, Senior Executive GP Partner, was named GP of the Year.
Miriam Primary Care Group came together in 2010 and consists of three GP practices – Miriam Medical Centre, Birkenhead; Seabank Medical Centre, Wallasey; and Earlston Medical Centre, Wallasey.
They provide services to around 10,000 patients and, in addition to traditional GP and community healthcare services, offer onsite access to physiotherapy, podiatry, counselling, drug and alcohol services, and welfare benefits advice.
The group also delivers a minor injury and illness service from Miriam Medical Centre in Birkenhead and Parkfield Medical Centre in New Ferry which is open to all Wirral residents.
Dr Abhi Mantgani, Senior Executive Partner of Miriam Primary Care Group, said: “These awards are fantastic news for our group and recognise the hard work of the team in helping our three practices grow and develop.
“Across Miriam Primary Care Group, bringing services to patients’ doorsteps has been a key objective and we continue to work towards making this happen and delivering the right care in the right way to all our patients.”
Dr Mantgani founded Miriam Medical Centre in 1987 in one of the most deprived areas of Birkenhead. He continues to practice as a GP at the Laird Street centre in addition to his current role as Clinical Chief Officer for Wirral Clinical Commissioning Group.
Philomena Potts joined Miriam Medical Centre in 2000 and was made a partner in 2008 in recognition of her contribution 
to the practice, both in helping to achieve challenging targets and introducing a range of innovative measures to improve nursing and the range of services to patients.
The awards were presented by the RCGP Mersey Faculty at a ceremony at Everton Football Club on Tuesday 16 October.
