Alcohol

Hospital admissions for alcohol conditions have more than doubled during the last ten years. Over 30% of men and 20% of women are now drinking above the guidelines set by Government. In Wirral, 1 in 3 adults drink above the recommended limits.
- Problems with Alcohol? Getting help with all types of alcohol problems has never been easier. The ‘What?’ campaign aims to educate everybody about alcohol and point those who need further help in the right direction.
- Pharmacists, community nurses, GPs and other health professionals can help people identify whether they are drinking too much. For many people small changes to their drinking can make a big difference to their life.
- There are specialist alcohol treatment services to help people with more serious alcohol problems. These include walk-in services, counselling services, detoxification programmes and residential programmes. Importantly, there are also services to help people who are recovering from alcohol problems including support from former drinkers and education, training and employment opportunities.
