Let’s Get Growing!
Let's Get Growing has been developed to provide a comprehensive and accessible guide to growing produce in small spaces. The pack can be used by settings including:
- Community groups
- Children's Centres
- Schools
who are keen to learn more and get involved in growing produce.
Whether you have a small yard space to grow produce in pots and hanging baskets, grow bags or even a humble window box, it is possible to grow fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs in the smallest of spaces.
Growing your own produce can be a great learning experience for all involved. The pack highlights the health benefits of growing your own such as
- becoming physically active,
- consuming your 5 A Day by eating fresh and nutritious food,
- improving your wellbeing,
- it has been proven that spending time outdoors can reduce stress levels
not to mention the environmental benefits;
- creating a green space,
- growing produce to eat organically and
- reducing pollution levels and number of miles food travels.
The pack includes a guide showing when to grow based on the time of year and
seasons as well as a guide to the tools and equipment you will need. There is also information about practical aspect’s of growing your own including, planning your growing space, caring and watering your plants, harvesting, dealing with unwanted pests and suggestions about what to do with your produce following a bountiful harvest.
